| Clearly, a child star |
Remember those phrases your parents used (specifically my mom) that seemed to be overly repetitive, usually annoying, causing you to swear said phrase would never come out of your own mouth? Ever? I have a long list of such phrases and while I’ve called my parents a few times with the “yeah, you were right about ____,” I’ve managed to avoid my blacklisted… list of phrases. (I also have lists of "what I will not dress my kids in" and "how I will not cut their hair." Included photo makes both lists)
I did it. I uttered a phrase located at the top of my blacklist. “I can’t help you if you won’t help yourself.” Even typing it gives me the chills. My mom would say this to me often growing up, usually in the context of being sick or during a case of insomnia when my stubbornness ruled my thoughts and any suggestion she gave I was sure wouldn’t work/was stupid.
I said “that sentence” to Brian last night because we are both now under the weather… both not the best patients… and both at our wits end trying to figure out how to get better. And so I said it… and I’m not proud. Hopefully hundreds of years will pass before another phrase gets uttered. I guess its sign #40204085 of me growing up… even though in my head I’m still 19... or 6…
